Mama Mia Review

Cinematography:
The cinematography was pretty bad for the location and the styling. The long sweeping shots of the island it was set on were pretty good, but not excellent. They could have been more elegant. The close up shots were terrible and were pretty weird, especially in the dance numbers, most of which were mediocre at best from the vast expanse of them. It seems as if they did stage choreography in the movie, which doesn’t work at all.

Music:
The music was nice, I love ABBA a lot, and the song choice fit well with the movie. My only problem with it is that NONE of the actors could sing, except for Amanda Seyfried. Her voice is amazing, but Pierce Brosnan? Stellan Sarsgard? These guys suck ass. Their voices sound forced and completely ruined it for me. Meryl Streep did well in a few numbers, but not well enough to make up for the bad voices.

Acting:
I was surprised that such a stellar cast with such great jobs done in the past, especially by 007 Brosnan and Meryl Streep. The acting looks as if it was done as a Broadway Musical, which didn’t do that well. The directors treated this as if it were a live show, which worked out really badly on screen. Not a very satisfying job.

Directing:
All the faults in the movie were really apparent, and, regardless of the reputation of the music and the cast, a bad job was done. Casting could have been better, the dance numbers could have been better, there were few things in the movie that couldn’t be improved.

It was not a satisfying movie at all. It definitely had its good moments, enough to make it watchable. Don’t see this in theatres, it’s not worth that money. You want to cozy up at night with a trashy movie? This is the perfect movie for it.

It's about what's FAIR! (Movie Review: The Dark Knight)

So I just saw one of the most amazing movies that will exist for the next few years. I'll keep this quite simply divided in order to give you guys a better review.

Cinematography:

For the type of setting that it was in, a city, the cinematography was excellent. Obviously it was no “sweeping New Zealand fields that make me question my existence” but it did the job. The large sweeping shots of the city were quite well done, and definitely got the job done. Definitely good for its setting.

Music:

The music was great, but eventually it got repetitive. The only music that played through the movie was the one we heard in the trailer. You could have simply take that music and play it over and over again for three hours, speaking of which, the movie may have been amazing, but it was long as hell. They could have cut at least 20 minutes of it. But whatever.

Direction:

I liked the message of the film, especially the “morality can easily be abandoned” part of it. The end, which I will not reveal, has a very good take on the Two-Face philosophy. Especially, the way that Two-Face goes down. What I also like is how Nolan portrays Batman’s identity crisis, what is right for him to do, and what is also right for the Batman to do. Is Vigilantism correct in any society? Why would anyone stoop to that level? The constant dilemma in Nolan’s vision really amazes me. This new style of films is going to work very well in other genres.

Acting:

There was no actor who did not play their part to the best. Aaron Eckhart’s portrayal of Harvey Dent was simply, Nick Naylor but serious and then, taken waaaaaay to far. Christian Bale was the same Batman he was last time, but with a little more ferocity to him. The way he reacts to Heath Ledger works very well with The Joker’s personality. Speaking of which, He Was ACTUALLY INCREDIBLE! I expected a very good performance as usual from him, but for the last performance of his life, it was the most amazing acting job I have ever seen (that isn’t from Edward Norton) and he really looked his character. His eyes were messed up, his tone worked very well, and also went perfectly with each situation. All of it was masterfully done.

Overall, I loved this movie, especially the acting, and the voice of the movie. 10/10 for this work of art. I can't wait for the sequel.
